Ocean View Signature Suites

The beautiful grounds of Ocean House have made it a premier luxury wedding destination for those seeking an unforgettable experience. Each day at Ocean House offer a variety of activities that allow our guests to have the perfect relaxing vacation. Guests can experience the incredible amenities and facilities on our property, as well as sights and attractions throughout Rhode Island and coastal Connecticut. Perched high on the bluffs of Watch Hill, Rhode Island, Ocean House is an iconic New England seaside resort, and the first and only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star hotel in the state.

After the dilapidated original was torn down in 2004, Ocean House was rebuilt for $140 million with the same warm yellow exterior, lobby fireplace stonework, and front desk mail slots. This new version has a third of the original's rooms, however, and more than twice the windows—the better to appreciate the stunning views. The spacious rooms have feather-top beds with luxury linens, marble bathrooms, plush towels, and bathrobes. Deluxe rooms have deep soaking tubs, and Grand Deluxe rooms have fireplaces and terraces.

Each of the Ocean House’s 49 guestrooms, 20 Signature Suites, and the cottages are inspired by Watch Hill's magnificent oceanfront setting and rich history. Nothing is more relaxing than watching the sunset over the ocean while sipping champagne on the hotel verandah. The original cottage, known as House on the Hill, dates back to the turn of the century. To bring the residence to its current grandeur, The Oceanic was thoughtfully designed by Architect Meg Lyons, the lead project manager on the historic rebuild of The Ocean House. One of the most iconic cottages in Watch Hill, The Oceanic is known for its towering and prominent position, its beautiful fieldstone construction and stone-walled terrace.

But that's only if you can bear to leave Ocean House’s wonderfully comfortable and spacious rooms, especially one of the 20 signature suites. The Presidential Suite is simply enormous and has a baby grand piano in the living room, as well as a hot tub and large cabana lounge on its view-hugging private deck. The treehouse-like Tower Suite has an open staircase up to a widow’s walk. Ocean House maintains a rotating itinerary of activities during the summer season, including yoga, croquet lessons and art classes, but it’s their culinary and wine programs that are most renowned. In the summer, the dining scene at Ocean House truly comes alive with a Friday night lobster boil on the beach, and pop-up dining experiences like Dalia by Danton Valle, a contemporary Mexican restaurant.

Ocean House’s Ocean & Harvest Spa and COAST restaurant are also Forbes Five-Star rated, making Ocean House a triple Five-Star resort, one of only fourteen resorts in the world with this honor. The Center for Wine and Culinary Arts, our 3,000-square-foot education and entertaining space, offers resort and day guests a place to taste, create, and learn all about cooking and wine. The beach at Ocean House is spectacular and is the primary lure of the resort in the peak summer months. Long beach walks on vast stretches of sand beckon guests to linger and soak in the salty sea air. In the winter, the indoor pool is enclosed to be a long skinny lap pool.

Overlooking Block Island Sound and the eastern most tip of Long Island, many guest rooms have spectacular Atlantic views. Another subterranean gem is the Center for Wine and Culinary Arts, where a visiting forager might teach about local edibles, or the inn’s sommelier might lead a wine class, instructing from the adjacent 8,000-bottle wine cellar. When you check rates and book independently reviewed hotels through our site, we may earn a small commission.

Boating enthusiasts have choices ranging from sailing lessons to excursions on the classic motor yacht, the Dandy. Surfing and stand-up paddleboarding lessons are available on the beach. Fishing charters, as well as on-shore fly fishing, are offered directly at the resort.

There isn’t much going on in this sleepy town, but that’s part of the draw for guests at the Ocean House. Nearby Newport and Providence offer a bit more excitement for those who want more than relaxation from their vacation. This lavish Victorian hotel, once a summer retreat for the rich and famous, sits on Watch Hill commanding gorgeous views. Each of the Ocean House’s 49 guest rooms and 20 Signature Suites is inspired by our magnificent oceanfront setting, high atop a bluff overlooking Block Island Sound. Comfortable, soothing and spacious, our accommodations are beautifully appointed with turn-of-the-20th-century décor complete with custom wooden furnishings, a muted color scheme and early New England artwork. High-tech touches such as wireless internet access, floor butler, voicemail, and flat–screen televisions ensure your room meets all your technological needs.
